The other day I was given a Tupperware of the most amazing cookies as a gift. It was a thoughtful gesture for sure but uggg... how was I going to survive the 30 minute drive home without eating the entire box? I mean they were really good!!
No matter what delicious food is in front of you, figuring out how to stop is often the biggest challenge when it comes to losing weight.
So, here's what I did and it worked!
I decided that two was a responsible number to allow myself. As a slowly finished off my second cookie, I had an incredible urge to just keep going. "Just finish them all off" the cookie monster within said. Instead of giving in, I knew better. The party more cookies would offer was only in my head. The reality of how I would feel after was the voice of reason that I needed to pay attention to. I took a deep breath and let the promise of a good time settle down. After a couple of minutes, the desire to eat a ridiculous number of cookies was gone. I was so glad I waited it out. There's always going to be the option of more. The key to effective weight loss is to allow moments of pause to reconnect to a better decision.
